We can all agree that the music of ABBA is brilliant, right?
One of the most successful music groups of all time, the band enjoyed their heyday in the 1970s with songs like Dancing Queen, Super Trouper, Honey Honey and, of course, the Eurovision-winning Waterloo. That may have been a long time ago, but the huge success of Mamma Mia! - both on stage and big screen - is proof of their continuing legendary status.
So given the chance of seeing them in concert, it was a yes from me! But, to be clear, even if you are not a huge fan of the Swedish pop group, you will want to see this show. You will want to be there to witness the dawning of a new age for performers where age, health and even living status are no barrier to their artform.
ABBA Voyage is not just a retro concert, it is an astonishing step into the future.

Yes, you are enjoying the wonderful Benny, Agnetha, Björn, and Anni-Frid on stage - the four wore motion-capture suits and were filmed as they performed the whole set - but with a little help from technology, they appear as they did in their prime, complete with spangly outfits and classic dance moves.
It is so real! On the close up screens, you can initially see that each person is an avatar (especially around the mouth) but after a couple of songs, your brain fills in the gaps and you can't tell the difference (isn't the human brain extraordinary?!)
The show includes some stunning visuals with lights and films supporting the music, and I was delighted to see that there was also a talented live band and singers on stage adding just enough 'reality' to satisfy the more traditional audience members like me.
Joyous and timeless, it is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and dance in your step.

PS: I would recommend the standing tickets, if you are able, as this is music you want to dance to, and get the train as the DLR station of Pudding Mill Lane is just a jive-step away from the arena.
ABBA Voyage at the ABBA Arena, London is currently booking to November 2024.
